Go Dancing Cultural Troupe

Issue
ACRO Ghana presents a holistic approach to a better society through sports. Dancing activities like any other sport have declined as a result of the idea that discos are frequented by people who behave "badly". However, discos are quite rare and operate in cities where electricity is provided.
Objectives
Our traditional Cultural Troupes do very well without electricity and it provides elderly people the opportunity to dance and entertain. The youth participate to these troupes and thus take over when elderly people aren't able to continue. This project also provides entertainment during sports festivals.
It enables the youth and children to compare our traditional music with foreign ones. It can help them understand, embrace and support their cultural heritage.
There-creation of traditional music supports the view that we are born and endowed with talents which when properly enhanced would bring joy and improve our quality of life
Location: Dormaa District, Tamale District, Gomoa District Ghana.
Target group: Men and Women (all age groups)
Use of sport
ACRO Ghana believes dancing is an effective and easily accessible sport which needs to be rejuvenated in all the communities. Unlike modern music which requires electricity and other sophisticated equipment, the Traditional Cultural Troupes only need locally manufactured instruments. The production of these instruments also leads to job creation at the community level.
Dancing helps in the following areas:
- It is fun and increases self-esteem and self-confidence,
- It can also increase a sense of belonging,
- Dancing can encourage healthy lifestiyle values,
- It promotes team work skills and creates links within the society,
- It can provide job opportunities,
- This particular project also creates awareness of our traditional values.
